Consultation on green economy stocktaking in Kyrgyz Republic
Bishkek, 8 February 2017 - Under the leadership of the Ministry of Economy, 70 stakeholders gathered in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, to discuss the preliminary findings of a green economy stocktaking exercise that kicks off activities of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) in Kyrgyz Republic. Representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Agriculture and Finance, the State Agency of Environment Protection and Forestry, the National Statistics Committee, and civil society experts on gender, business and environment shared their insights on challenges and opportunities for green economy in the country, including through PAGE.
In 2016, Kyrgyz Republic became the first country in the Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (ECIS) region to join PAGE. National policies, including the National Sustainable Development Strategy (2013-2017), highlight Kyrgyz Republic’s commitment to a sustainable future. The country is also in the process of developing the 2040 Sustainable Development Vision and the 2018-2022 National Sustainable Development Strategy.
This stakeholder consultation aimed to determine how green economy can play a key role in realizing these strategies and Kyrgyz Republic’s sustainable development aspirations as a whole. As Daniar Imanaliev, Deputy Minister of Economy emphasizes, “green economy will bring many benefits to our country. These are about good opportunities for motivating and diversifying the economic production and innovation, water-energy and food security, resource-saving through introducing green technologies, new growth and increased trust by key investors”.
